In this three hour introductory class, we will explore Irish calligraphic letters, known as Uncial. Class will be divided into two 90 minute segments. The first half we will work with a large writing tool and liquid watercolor. The large tool enables us to learn proper technique and pen angle. The second half, we will work with a cartridge pen making smaller letters and exploring the creative possibilities. Students will be able to take home the cartridge pen and have lots of ideas on how to make special letters with color and glitz for the holidays.
The workshop will be lead by professional calligrapher, Debby Reelitz, from Granby Connecticut. Introduced to calligraphy by her 5th grade teacher, she dabbled for years. Then in 1998, she opened her own calligraphy studio in Chicago. She teaches this beautiful artform, creates awards, gifts, commissions, chalkboards, and more, and is the president of the Granby Artists Association.
