Program Description
Event Details
This hands-on class will explore cartooning as a tool for sharp observation, humor and personal storytelling. Sharing from her experience as the weekly cartoonist at The Millerton News, Natalia Zukerman will guide us through simple techniques, idea generation, and punchline timing, to get us started. Using low-pressure exercises and prompts, participants will turn everyday moments into clear, expressive cartoons.
No drawing experience required.
Drawing supplies and refreshments will be provided.
In connection with Salisbury READS, we’ll also hear about the importance of cartooning leading up to the American Revolution. With the rise of print technology and Enlightenment ideas, cartoons like Ben Franklin’s “Join or Die” segmented snake fueled revolutionary fervor.
This is a Salisbury READS event, presented in partnership with the Salisbury Association Historical Society in connection with the community READ of Revolution Song by Russell Shorto. To learn more and see the whole calendar of events, please visit Salisbury READS.
