The good news is that there’s plenty to do! This online presentation explains some of the factors behind the 30% drop in bird numbers since 1970, the prognosis for our birds in the face of future climate change, and the things we can do right here, right now to help birds cope with the challenges they face. Your woods, your yard, or even your patio can enhance the amount of bird habitat in the world.
Dr. Eileen Fielding is the Director of the Sharon Audubon Center, and Audubon Connecticut’s Team Leader for the Healthy Forest Initiative. Her work includes working with landowners and foresters to improve bird habitat on forested land. Before coming to Audubon, she worked for many years as Executive Director of conservation non-profits, and taught Conservation Biology and Ecology at the college and graduate level.
