Whether you have a interest in keeping bees or just want to understand more about these fascinating creatures or how a beehive works, you will learn much from Mark Creighton, Connecticut’s State
Apiary Inspector. This bee talk will present information to prospective beekeepers on the basics of beekeeping. The information will include information on site selection, beekeeper protective equipment, beehive types, seasonal management, disease and parasites, installing new bees into a hive, honey production and more. Additional Information will be presented on local bee clubs, national beekeeping publications and local beekeeping working groups.

Creighton grew up in rural New Hampshire on a small family farm and started a bee hive without much success.
After being released from 12 years in the Coast Guard, Mark became aware of the severe decline in the Honey bee populations and took up beekeeping again. Having spent a career diagnosing and treating people, Mark began learning about the many health issues facing the honey bee and became a Master Bee Keeper and extensively studied bees.
In May of 2012, Mark was selected as Connecticut’s Apiary Inspector and is employed by The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven, CT. In October 2014, Mark was selected as Beekeeper of the Year by the Connecticut Beekeepers Association and has been a frequent speaker at bee schools in Connecticut and elsewhere
