The Scoville Memorial Library proudly offers a “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program which is generously sponsored by Ilene Tetenbaum’s Birthday Fund and Housatonic Youth Services Bureau. Our purpose is to encourage families to read aloud to their children, especially those that have not yet entered Kindergarten. According to research, “The single most important activity caregivers and teachers can do to help children become successful readers is to read aloud to them every day”.

Register at the library to receive your first reading log. After you have read and recorded 100 books you will receive a book bag imprinted with the logo of the program, your next reading log, and a butterfly to put on our bulletin board. Receive a prize after each 100 books.
