New ebooks just for Scoville cardholders

From time to time, the Library buys ebooks for our Overdrive collection which are available only to Scoville Library cardholders.  This means your wait time will be much shorter.

We just bought the following titles:

  • “The Alice Network” by Kate Quinn
  • “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr
  • “The Death of Mrs. Westaway” by Ruth Ware
  • “The Forgotten Garden” by Kate Morton
  • “Magpie Murders” by Anthony Horowitz
  • “The Women in the Castle” by Jessica Shattuck

In general, we buy ebooks when the price is below $20, comparable to what we pay for print books.  Sadly, libraries are still often charged over $50 per title for ebooks.  We have had survey responses wishing that there were different titles in Overdrive.  The selection in Overdrive is not in our control; we pay a yearly fee for access to a set collection.  Additionally, what libraries can buy is different than what you can buy as an individual.  We have limited choices set by the publishers.

Hoopla, another digital catalog, also has ebooks and there is never a wait list, i.e., instant gratification.  Please browse that catalog to see if there are titles which interest you.
