  of the authoritative history, Connecticut’s Cannon: The Salisbury Furna
 ce in the American Revolution.With Adam Rome, we’ll explore the vital ro
 le the Salisbury ironworks played in producing high-quality artillery for 
 the War of Independence, including three-quarters of the cannons used by t
 he Continental Army. We’ll revisit Salisbury’s local history with a cl
 oser look at the extraordinary people, resources, and industrial effort th
 at helped secure American independence. This event is presented by the Sa
 lisbury Association Historical Society in partnership with the Scoville Li
 brary.Adam Ward Rome will join us via Zoom, and the conversation will be p
 resented in hybrid format, offering in-person and online attendance, simul

 g the green button below.About the speakerAdam Ward Rome’s first publica
 tion, Connecticut’s Cannon: The Salisbury Furnace in the American Revolu
 tion, came out when he was a sophomore at Yale and began as an independent
 -study project at Loomis-Chaffee School. He went on to become an expert on
  the history of our relationship with the environment. He has written abou
 t suburban sprawl and the rise of the environmental movement, the first Ea
 rth Day, and efforts to green business. He also has created two Audible Or
 iginal “courses,” one on Earth Day and one on Frederick Law Olmsted. H
 e is a professor of environment and sustainability at the University at Bu
 ffalo.
