What is Horse-Powered Reading®?
Horse-Powered Reading® is an innovative, evidence-based approach where children engage with reading material while interacting with horses. Developed by Dr. Michele Pickel, this model uses experiential learning and the emotional presence of horses to support literacy development, confidence, and social-emotional growth. Children may read aloud near horses, engage in pacing/projection activities, and connect story themes through physical movement and obstacle courses.
Benefits include:
- Increased reading confidence and fluency
- Improved comprehension and engagement
- Support for emotional regulation and self-awareness
- Joyful, memorable learning experiences
